Why I created this book, from author and illustrator Lucy Tapper: I created This Time Last Year because the first year of fatherhood is unlike any other. There is a before. And then there is an after. I wanted to capture that contrast. The innocence of not yet knowing. The enormity of suddenly knowing everything has changed. A way of marking that first year not just as a milestone, but as the beginning of a lifelong bond.I chose to show the father as  a wise oak tree, with his little acorn, ready to grow and flourish.
